The Slingers began in 2016 when four “childhood sweethearts” decided to combine their passions of martial arts and music by starting a band.
The band has self-released a number of singles and two EPs, which was met with adoring reception. 2020 saw the release of their first 7″ single, ‘The Cruellest Cut’, with Flightless Records. The double A-side release consists of ‘Kind Hearts’, a lonesome cowboy ballad featuring Spike Fuck, and the title track, ‘The Cruellest Cut’, a synth-drenched punch of ‘Motel Pop’.Influenced by the music of Bruce Willis and the films of David Bowie (so they say), The Slingers have sought through their music to balance and synthesise a number of oppositional artistic forces: lyrics that are both tongue-in-cheek and haltingly sincere, live energy that borrows simultaneously from Elvis and Angel Olsen, and a sound that is as comfortable producing outlaw country as it is exploring drum machines and synthesisers.
